LYDL manufactures XV50 bearings for industrial robot joints, precision gearbox outputs, optical inspection systems, medical positioning equipment, semiconductor handling mechanisms and servo-driven rotary modules. Low-clearance, preloaded, corrosion-resistant and P5/P4/P2 accuracy configurations can be evaluated according to the approved drawing and inspection requirements.

XV50 Crossed Roller Bearing Overview

XV50 crossed roller bearing is a sealed, grease-lubricated precision bearing with a 50 mm bore, 100 mm outside diameter and 17 mm overall width. Its crossed cylindrical rollers enable one compact bearing position to support radial load, axial load from both directions and overturning moment. The bearing uses a solid outer ring with 12 counterbored fixing holes on an 85 mm pitch circle. This allows the outer ring to be mounted directly to a gearbox housing, mounting plate or machine structure. The circumferentially split inner ring can be located and adjusted using a suitable precision locknut. XV50 provides more load capacity than XV30 and XV40 while retaining a compact cross-section. It is suitable for robot joints, gearbox outputs, precision positioning equipment and automation mechanisms built around a 50 mm shaft interface. Other available bore sizes can be found on the XV Series Cross Roller Bearings page. XV50 bearing reference illustration

XV50 Crossed Roller Bearing Structure and Benefits

Direct Outer-Ring Installation

The solid outer ring contains 12 counterbored fixing holes, allowing it to be screwed directly to the surrounding structure. This can eliminate a separate outer-ring clamping flange and simplify the assembly. The mounting surface must provide adequate flatness and rigidity. Irregular screw tightening or housing deformation can affect running accuracy, internal load distribution and rotational torque.

Adjustable Inner Ring

The split inner ring is normally supported by a shaft shoulder and secured using a precision locknut. This arrangement allows the installed clearance or preload to be adjusted for the required rigidity and rotational characteristics. Locknut tightening torque alone does not accurately define preload. The final condition should be verified using an approved clearance, displacement or rotational-torque measurement procedure.

Combined-Load Capacity

Adjacent cylindrical rollers are arranged at 90 degrees to each other. This enables one XV50 bearing to carry radial, bidirectional axial and moment loads simultaneously, reducing the need for multiple separate bearing positions.

Sealed, Compact Construction

The standard bearing is sealed on both sides and grease lubricated. Its 17 mm overall width provides a relatively compact solution for a 50 mm bore and 100 mm outside diameter.

XV50 represents a clear capacity increase over XV40, particularly in static axial loading. It should be selected when a 50 mm bore and the larger 100 mm outside diameter are compatible with the machine design. XV60 retains the same 17 mm overall width but requires a 60 mm bore, 110 mm outside diameter and 16-hole fixing pattern. These models are not directly interchangeable.

XV50 or RB5013 for a 50 mm Bore?

Both XV50 and RB5013 have a nominal 50 mm bore, but their structures and boundary dimensions are different. XV50 measures 50 × 100 × 17 mm and uses a solid outer ring with fixing holes plus a split inner ring. The RB5013 Cross Roller Bearing measures 50 × 80 × 13 mm and uses an integrated inner ring with a split outer ring. XV50 is preferable when direct outer-ring mounting and locknut adjustment are required. RB5013 may be more suitable when minimum outside diameter and accurate inner-ring rotation are the main priorities. They are not direct replacements. Additional structures can be compared through the LYDL Cross Roller Bearing Product Range.

Typical XV50 Crossed Roller Bearing Applications

XV50 Load, Preload and Speed Selection

Bearing selection should consider the complete operating condition rather than one catalog rating. Important inputs include:
  • Radial and axial loads
  • Overturning moment and eccentricity
  • Continuous rotation or oscillating motion
  • Speed, acceleration and braking
  • Shock and vibration
  • Required service life
  • Required positioning accuracy
  • Housing and shaft rigidity
  • Fixing-screw capacity
  • Temperature and lubrication
Preload can improve rigidity and reduce internal play, but excessive preload may increase starting torque, operating temperature and sensitivity to mounting errors. It can also reduce speed capability and grease life. For robot and gearbox applications, preload should be matched to reducer stiffness, motor torque and reversing frequency. For optical or measuring systems, smooth motion and torque consistency may be more important than maximum preload.

XV50 Crossed Roller Bearing Versions and Suffixes

DesignationTypical meaning

Suffix definitions are not universal across manufacturers. Preload level, coating, grease, accuracy and inspection requirements must be confirmed on the LYDL quotation and drawing. P5, P4 and P2 should be treated as defined technical accuracy requirements rather than assumed universal suffixes. The inspection characteristics, datums, tolerances and acceptance method should be stated clearly.

XV50 Crossed Roller Bearing Frequently Asked Questions

What changes when moving from XV40 to XV50?

XV50 increases the bore from 40 mm to 50 mm, the outside diameter from 85 mm to 100 mm and the overall width from 15 mm to 17 mm. It also provides higher dynamic and static load ratings.

Why does XV50 use 12 outer-ring fixing holes?

The 12-hole pattern distributes mounting force around the solid outer ring while keeping the bearing compact. The number of holes alone does not determine connection capacity; screw strength, engagement, preload and applied moment must also be checked.

Can XV50 directly replace RB5013?

No. Although both have a 50 mm bore, their outside diameters, widths, ring structures and mounting methods differ. Replacement requires a complete review of the shaft, housing and fixing interface.

Is XV50 suitable for a precision gearbox hollow shaft?

It can be suitable when the 50 mm bore, mounting arrangement, load capacity and accuracy meet the gearbox requirements. Reducer backlash, shaft deflection, housing stiffness and locknut adjustment must also be considered.

How should XV50 preload be verified?

Preload should be checked using an approved clearance, displacement or rotational-torque procedure. Locknut tightening torque alone is not sufficient because thread friction and lubrication affect the result.

Can a preloaded XV50 operate continuously at 597 rpm?

Not automatically. The catalog value is a reference limiting speed. Continuous operating speed depends on load, preload, lubrication, temperature and heat dissipation and should normally include an appropriate operating margin.

What should be checked for a vertical rotary axis?

The axial load direction, braking load, overturning moment, grease distribution and fail-safe support arrangement should be reviewed. Loads generated during emergency stops must also be considered.

How can outer-ring distortion be reduced during installation?

Use a flat and rigid mounting surface, install all screws before final tightening and tighten them gradually in a crosswise sequence. Runout and rotational torque should be checked after assembly.

What inspection records are useful for a pilot production order?

A first-article inspection can include dimensions, hole position, radial and axial runout, clearance or preload, rotational torque, material information and serial-number traceability.
