K12008XP0 / J12008XP0 Four-Point Contact Thin Section Bearing – 120 × 136 × 8 mm (Open & Sealed)

K12008XP0 and J12008XP0 are KAYDON references for open and double-sealed Type X bearings. This page offers LYDL PX12008 and PX12008UU, respectively, in a 120 × 136 × 8 mm metric envelope.

  • PX12008 — Open: for evaluation in protected assemblies with a defined lubrication arrangement.
  • PX12008UU — Double sealed: for applications where integral closure supports grease retention and contamination control.
  • Compact geometry: 120 mm bore, 136 mm outside diameter and 8 mm width.
  • Selection support: compare enclosure design, cover clearance, operating loads and rotational resistance before substitution.

Request the LYDL drawing and quotation for the required version. KAYDON numbers are comparison references; the approved supply specification defines LYDL materials, accuracy and performance.

K12008XP0 and J12008XP0 are KAYDON reference models for open and double-sealed four-point contact bearings. This page presents LYDL PX12008 and PX12008UU, respectively, in a nominal 120 × 136 × 8 mm envelope. The products offered are LYDL bearings; reference numbers identify the comparison, while the approved LYDL drawing defines the supplied configuration.

For a compact rotary fixture, the decision between these two versions starts with the surrounding enclosure and lubrication plan. Both provide an 8 mm section around a 120 mm bearing seat. Choose the closure arrangement that fits the complete machine, then verify loads, mounting and running behavior for the actual duty.

The LYDL metric Type X series table separates the open and sealed versions. Include the complete LYDL model on the purchase specification: the UU suffix changes the closure configuration. Specify ring material, seal compound where applicable, lubricant, accuracy and internal clearance or preload on the order drawing.

Select the closure around the machine’s protection strategy

Consider PX12008 open when the bearing sits inside a protected assembly and lubrication can be managed at machine level. Define the lubricant delivery method, service interval and contamination barriers together. An enclosure that looks closed may still admit particles through a shaft passage or during maintenance.

Consider PX12008UU double sealed when integral closure is useful for grease retention and limiting contaminant entry. Specify the grease and seal design for the expected temperature, motion and environment. Seals do not establish washdown, vacuum or cleanroom suitability by themselves; those requirements need a separate application review.

For either version, document how the unit is cleaned and serviced. A buyer should be able to distinguish a bearing that is accessible for planned maintenance from one buried inside an assembly. This distinction helps define the supply specification before a sample is ordered.

Send the enclosure layout and operating duty for a version review.

KAYDON reference ratings and their limits

These are KAYDON catalog values, shared by K12008XP0 and J12008XP0. They are not verified LYDL performance ratings.

Load directionDynamic ratingStatic rating
Radial7,286 N12,376 N
Axial11,297 N30,950 N
Moment350 N·m792 N·m

The values are not simultaneous operating limits. Dynamic ratings use a one-million-revolution L10 basis; static ratings assume rigid support.

For J12008XP0, the catalog lists 530 rpm at loads up to 20% of dynamic capacity and 0.22 N·m maximum no-load torque, measured with standard internal fit and lubricant, at room temperature under 5 lbf thrust. Neither figure defines an unrestricted operating limit for PX12008UU. The corresponding open table does not list these figures for K12008XP0.

For LYDL selection calculations, request confirmed ratings and operating limits for the specified configuration. The LYDL series table labels force capacities in “kg”; those entries are not treated here as newton ratings or silently converted into certified values.

Application example: a rotary inspection nest with two enclosure options

A possible application is a workpiece nest that turns a component between inspection stations. The 120 mm bore establishes the bearing seat, while the 136 mm outside diameter helps define the surrounding support. Model the shaft and other components before assuming how much clear passage remains through the assembly.

Compare two enclosure concepts during design: a protected, serviceable module with an open bearing, and a module using a double-sealed bearing. For each concept, record the contamination path, lubrication access and acceptable drive resistance. Evaluate an offset workpiece and the forces from clamping or probing, rather than selecting from payload mass alone.

Validate positioning at the feature being inspected, with the fixture loaded and the covers installed. This is an engineering example for selection, not a claim of a completed customer installation.

Check the installation before switching versions

The KAYDON reference land diameters L1/L2 are 125.9/130.1 mm for K12008XP0 and 126.55/129.42 mm for J12008XP0. These describe bearing geometry, not recommended housing shoulder sizes.

Use the LYDL section drawing to check shoulders, clamping faces and cover relief. Compare the assembled tolerance stack in both axial directions. A common external envelope does not show whether a cover clears a seal or whether the intended ring face receives the clamping force.

Thin rings depend on the accuracy of their supporting seats. Inspect seat roundness and locating-face flatness, and follow the agreed fits. During installation, apply force to the ring being fitted without transmitting it through the balls. Tighten retainers uniformly using the specified sequence.

For the sample build, record rotational resistance before fitting, after seating and after final cover tightening. Use the same measurement method throughout. A change between these stages can help locate a fit, alignment or clamping issue before the drive system is commissioned.

Brand codes and purchasing identification

Use PX12008 — Open and PX12008UU — Double Sealed for LYDL purchasing. The corresponding KAYDON references are K12008XP0 and J12008XP0, respectively.

KAYDON K means steel construction without seals or shields; J means steel construction with two nitrile seals. X identifies four-point contact, P a standard snap-over separator, and 0 Kaydon class 1 / ABEC 1F. These codes do not certify the LYDL configuration.

Compare closure terminology across catalogs. INA / Schaeffler uses CSXU050-2RS for a double-sealed model at 127 × 146.05 × 12.7 mm. NSK describes four-point contact with NBX in its inch-design range and two-sided sealing with DD. These explain naming conventions; neither is a verified 120 × 136 × 8 mm replacement.

Inspection and delivery requirements

Agree the inspection scope when requesting samples. Useful items include dimensions, runout, internal setting and a rotational-resistance test under defined conditions. State whether acceptance concerns the unmounted bearing, the assembled mechanism or both.

Keep open and sealed versions identifiable through receiving and assembly. Specify the model, drawing revision and required traceability on the packing documents. Confirm protective packaging and lubricant identification with the order, particularly when samples will be stored before evaluation.

Practical selection questions

Is PX12008UU necessary if the bearing is already inside a sealed enclosure?

Not necessarily. Review how effective that enclosure remains during operation and servicing, and how lubrication reaches the bearing. An open version may suit a protected, lubricated arrangement. A sealed version may still be useful, but its grease and running behavior must fit the application.

Does identical catalog load capacity mean both versions need the same motor torque?

No. Load capacity and rotational resistance describe different characteristics. Define the motor torque budget using the selected seals, grease, internal setting, installation and operating temperature. Measure starting and running resistance in the assembled unit rather than deriving motor demand from a load-rating table.

Can one housing drawing cover both versions?

It may, after both configurations have been checked. Verify seal clearance, shoulder contact, retaining components and the axial tolerance stack. Identify the permitted version and any changed cover or spacer on the assembly bill of materials so the common housing does not create an ambiguous order.

What should be measured on a fixture that indexes and then holds position?

Define the angular movement, acceleration, dwell time and external holding loads. Test repeatability after approach from both directions and measure displacement under the relevant clamp or probe force. State where the measurement is taken, since fixture flexibility also contributes to the result.

What information makes an open-versus-sealed quotation comparable?

Send one common duty specification and request two clearly identified configurations. Include quantity, drawing revision, fits, accuracy, environment, lubrication requirements and acceptance tests. Ask each quotation to identify any differences in supply conditions, inspection scope and lead time.

Request a configuration review and quotation

Specify PX12008 open, PX12008UU double sealed, or request a comparison of both. Attach the assembly section, load cases and operating cycle. Include delivery destination, quantity and required inspection documents.

For a smaller seat with a service passage, compare K10008XP0 / J10008XP0 — 100 × 116 × 8 mm. If the platform requires a larger seat, review K15008XP0 / J15008XP0 — 150 × 166 × 8 mm, with attention to its housing and retainer support. Each size needs its own installation review.

Request the LYDL drawing and quotation for the selected version.
