K08008XP0 / J08008XP0 Four-Point Contact Thin Section Bearing – 80 × 96 × 8 mm (Open & Sealed)

K08008XP0 and J08008XP0 identify the open and sealed KAYDON references for LYDL PX8008 and PX8008UU. Both LYDL options use an 80 × 96 × 8 mm envelope.

This pair is useful to compare when a small indexing mechanism must restart reliably after repeated dwell periods. Select the open or double-sealed configuration together with the enclosure, grease and available drive torque. Request separate confirmation of the running limits and internal setting for each option.

Send the starting temperature, motion cycle and drive requirements for an application review and quotation.

K08008XP0 and J08008XP0 are reference designations used to compare LYDL PX8008 open and PX8008UU double sealed bearings. The products offered here are LYDL four-point contact bearings in 80 × 96 × 8 mm dimensions.

On an intermittent rotary station, the difficult condition may be the first movement after a dwell rather than steady rotation. Assess that condition explicitly when choosing between the two closures. The reference model alone does not establish the torque required by your assembled mechanism.

Build a start-up requirement for the complete axis

Describe the motion the actuator must produce at the beginning of a cycle. Include the dwell time, starting temperature, acceleration target and any external force already acting on the mechanism. A no-load bench spin does not reproduce a restart with a workpiece clamped in position.

Separate sources of drive resistance during evaluation. The bearing, external seals, cable routing, transmission and process contacts can all influence the measured motor demand. Where practical, record a defined unloaded configuration and then add these components in a documented order. This creates a useful diagnostic sequence without assuming that every change originates inside the bearing.

PX8008 leaves closure and lubrication access to the machine design. PX8008UU introduces an integral sealed option whose grease and internal setting still need to match the duty. Request comparable samples with their differences identified; changing seals, lubricant and clearance at once makes the result harder to interpret.

The acceptance requirement should specify repeatability over several restarts, not merely the lowest torque observed during one favorable run.

K08008XP0 / J08008XP0 reference data

The following values describe KAYDON K08008XP0 and J08008XP0, not certified LYDL performance.

Catalog ratingDynamicStatic
Radial5,796 N8,424 N
Axial8,728 N21,045 N
Moment191 N·m370 N·m

These limits are not simultaneous. The dynamic basis is one million revolutions of L10 life; static values assume rigid ring support. Obtain the LYDL rating basis before calculating application life. The LYDL series table labels force capacities in “kg”; this page does not silently reinterpret those entries as newtons.

For the sealed J08008XP0 reference, Kaydon lists 950 rpm at loads up to 20% of dynamic capacity, and 0.09 N·m maximum no-load torque with standard internal fit and lubricant, at room temperature under 5 lbf thrust. These are conditional reference figures, not unrestricted limits for the supplied LYDL bearing.

Example: an intermittent part-orientation station

An 80 mm seat may suit a compact station that presents a component in several orientations to a tool or sensor. The station can spend much of its cycle stationary while another process runs. Document whether the tool remains in contact during the next movement, because that changes the conditions seen by the drive.

Evaluate a representative cycle from its true resting condition. Load the intended part, apply the normal fixture forces and execute the commanded movement. Record the time to reach position and any overshoot or settling behavior using the machine's actual measurement method.

Compare the closure options only after checking how each is protected in that station. The example describes a possible evaluation method; it does not assign a positioning accuracy, duty life or motor size to either bearing.

Preserve a useful torque comparison during sample testing

Use the same support, coupling and measuring procedure when comparing PX8008 with PX8008UU. Note the time since assembly and the lubricant condition. A warmed-up sample should not be compared with a second sample immediately after cold storage without recording that difference.

Specify whether the result is breakaway resistance, steady running resistance or peak drive demand during acceleration. These measurements answer different questions. Express the requirement in terms the test system can reproduce and record the applied loads with the result.

Inspect the assembly if a localized tight spot appears at the same angular position. Check whether its position follows the bearing, the housing or another component when the approved diagnostic procedure allows a change of orientation. Do not remove seals or alter an internal setting to make a test pass without an engineering review.

A sample report should include both successful runs and any repeatable anomalous behavior.

Brand codes and supply designation

Use PX8008 — Open and PX8008UU — Double Sealed for LYDL purchasing. The corresponding KAYDON references are K08008XP0 and J08008XP0, respectively.

KAYDON K means steel construction without seals or shields; J means steel construction with two nitrile seals. X identifies four-point contact, P a standard snap-over separator, and 0 Kaydon class 1 / ABEC 1F. These codes do not certify the LYDL configuration.

Seal codes do not specify starting resistance. Schaeffler lists CSXU050-2RS as sealed on both sides; NSK uses DD in its inch-design NBX four-point family. These are naming examples, not 80 mm alternatives. Any proposed substitute still needs its own grease, seal and torque assessment for repeated restarts.

Specify the evidence needed for actuator sizing

Provide the actuator engineer with measured conditions rather than a single unexplained torque number. Identify temperature, applied load, direction of travel and the measurement location. If the drive includes reduction gearing, distinguish motor-side observations from bearing-axis measurements.

Agree how many cycles and restarts are needed for a representative comparison. Include the longest relevant dwell and any expected low-temperature start. Use those results alongside the load analysis when deciding the final configuration.

The delivery specification should preserve the selected closure, lubricant and internal bearing setting so later samples remain comparable to the approved unit.

PX8008 practical questions

Should I select the open version simply to reduce starting resistance?

Do not choose closure on that assumption alone. The machine may already have an external seal or a lubrication arrangement that dominates the result. Compare complete, protected assemblies under the same starting conditions and confirm that the chosen configuration meets the contamination requirement.

Is the catalog no-load torque a suitable motor-sizing value?

It is a reference under stated test conditions, not the complete axis demand. The motor must also meet the acceleration and external-load requirements. Establish breakaway and running behavior for the installed configuration before setting drive margins.

Why can two samples behave differently after the same dwell?

First compare their recorded temperature, lubricant condition, internal setting and mounting conditions. Also check whether the same external components were connected. Without those controls, the results do not isolate a manufacturing difference or a closure effect.

Can I remove the seals from PX8008UU and treat it as PX8008?

Do not qualify that modification from the shared dimensions. Seal removal changes the supplied configuration and may affect cleanliness or adjacent components. Order and approve the required open version with its own supply specification instead of altering a sealed sample.

What is a useful acceptance test for a positioning station?

Reproduce the load, dwell and restart sequence that matters to the process, then measure positioning behavior and drive demand. Define pass criteria before testing. A free-running bearing check can support receiving inspection but cannot establish the performance of the finished station.

The smaller PX5008 page addresses instrument-cartridge commissioning. The 100 mm pair focuses on a hollow rotating interface; compare it when the service passage, rather than drive behavior, controls the layout.
